    Summary:

The first edition of this book ‘CONCEPTS IN GENETICS’ comprised of
eleven chapters discusses a variety of topics related to heredity and
genetics, including chromosomes, genes, Mendelism, mitosis, and
meiosis, chromosomal aberrations, multiple alleles, quantitative
characters, multiple factor hypothesis, mutation, cytoplasmic
inheritance, genetic material, transcription and translation, gene
regulation, quantitative genetics and population genetics. It is hoped
that this book is a valuable resource for teachers and both graduate
and post graduate students as a introductory study material on the
various aspects of Genetics and attempts to explain the various
concepts and phenomenon in a simple, clear and easy-to-narrative.
Efforts have been made to provide up-to-date information about
various genetic principles and their practical implications especially in
crop improvement. Since this is the first edition of the book hence
every possibility to have printing/typographical errors and some factual
overlooking/mistakes. I would, therefore feel humbled if informed by
the readers with regards to such mistakes. It will be a privilege in
inviting cooperation of all the faculty/students in removing any error in
the book. Author acknowledges all the sources from where some
textual materials have been consulted/drafted and included.
I greatly appreciate efforts and cooperation of Publishers and their
production staff for bringing out this book in an excellent form in the
    shortest possible span of time.
The editors trust that that this document will be of use to students,
teachers, researchers, NGOs, policy makers, planners. Editors
acknowledge all the contributors, their affiliating
institutions/organizations and some progressive farmers, who took time
    to rewrite their success stories.
